Our members offer free, independent, quality advice which is impartial, non-judgemental and respectful of the person's dignity. If giving advice is part of your organisation's work and you meet our membership criteria, you can join us to avail of our membership services.
Advice NI is a membership organisation that exists to promote, support and develop the independent advice sector across Northern Ireland. Our members can be categorised into generalist advice centres and specialist advice providers. Further details can be found on our Membership Profile calendar.
Generalist Centres
Generalist advice centres are usually formed by local people in response to local needs.
The advice and information service will often be part of a broad range of community development activities, aimed at combating social exclusion and disadvantage in that local community.
For example as well as the advice service there may be a women's group, a September Club for older people and training courses for local people. This type of advice service covers a wide range of issues including social security benefits, tax credit enquiries, debt, consumer issues and housing problems.
Specialist Centres

Specialist advice providers tend to focus their service on one specific group or issue.
They are at the forefront in meeting the needs of their client base and have amassed a great deal of expertise in relation to their specific area of work.
Typical examples of specialist organisations include those dealing with lone parents, people with disabilities or prisoners and their families; or issue-based organisations for example those dealing with housing enquiries.
