Social Policy
Social policy is an ever important aspect of the work of Advice NI and the membership. Independent advice centres operate on the frontline in providing advice to people across Northern Ireland, particularly to people living in deprived local communities and to excluded social groups. In addition to addressing the needs of individuals, members are ideally placed to comment on the impact of policy decisions – both intended and unintended.
Social Policy Briefing Papers are produced on a quarterly basis on issues of concern to members and their clients. The aim is that these Social Policy Briefing Papers will give a voice to those who bear the brunt of social welfare initiatives, will be informed by the experiences of members operating on the frontline and will inform decision makers.
Consultation responses are made on an ongoing basis on social welfare related issues. These reflect the vision, mission and values of Advice NI, the values, experiences and views of Advice NI members and ultimately the thoughts and concerns of service users.
eConsultations are a relatively recent development within Advice NI. The online medium aims to give a voice to socially excluded people and communities by enabling advisers within local communities or ‘communities of interest’ to
- highlight issues of concern
- participate in social policy debate
- build their capacity and skills as regards using new information communication technologies
The eConsultation Reports aim to reflect the online discussions and are presented to decision makers and all relevant stakeholders.
